Sweet Melon After Dark: Melon Malo BORNTOSTANDOUT

When developing Melon Malo, perfumer Jordi Fernández drew on two contrasting memories of melon: childhood summers in Spain and the heavier, more decadent atmosphere of late-night markets in Southeast Asia. The idea transforms melon from something innocent, refreshing and nostalgic into something darker, richer and more addictive.

The fragrance begins with the luminous juiciness of melon, sharpened by candied ginger and warmed with cinnamon bark and mandarin. As the composition develops, Bulgarian rose, rose petals and red berries introduce a floral-fruity richness, while patchouli pulls the scent toward a deeper, earthier character. In the base, oud, cistus, Georgywood, leather and musks give the sweetness a darker and more textured foundation.

Melon Malo belongs to BORNTOSTANDOUT's Extrait Extrême collection. According to the brand, fragrances in this collection contain 55–62% fragrance concentration and are aged for three months in traditional Korean Onggi pottery.

Olfactory Notes

Upon the first spray, melon takes center stage with a juicy, aqueous sweetness. Candied ginger adds a crystallized spicy bite while cinnamon bark introduces warmth and mandarin brings a brighter citrus accent.

As the opening settles, Bulgarian rose and rose petals emerge alongside red berries. Patchouli gives this fruity-floral heart more density and prevents the composition from remaining simply fresh or sweet.

The drydown moves decisively darker. Oud and Georgywood create a strong woody structure, while cistus brings resinous warmth. Leather and musks complete the base, creating a contrast between luminous melon and a richer, deeper foundation.
